Quote of the day

When it comes to art, it's important not to hide the madness

Renaissance task

The Renaissance was a period in European history that lasted from the 14th to the 17th Century.
One of the distinguishing features of Renaissance art was its development of highly realistic linear perspective.

Characteristics of this period:

  • New interest in humans
  • Human bodies where curved and not very muscular
  • Portraiting humans naked became normal again
  • Oilpaint gained popularity
  • Colours where bright and plesant

Some famous artists from this period is:

Raphael:

Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, most commonly known as Raphael, was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance.Raphael was enormously productive, running an unusually large workshop and, despite his death at 37, leaving a large body of work. Many of his works are found in the Vatican Palace, where the frescoed Raphael Rooms were the central, and the largest, work of his career. The best known work is The School of Athens in the Vatican Stanza della Segnatura.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, and poet of the High Renaissance who exerted an unparalleled influence on the development of Western art. A number of Michelangelo's works of painting, sculpture, and architecture rank among the most famous in existence. His output in every field of interest was prodigious; given the sheer volume of surviving correspondence, sketches, and reminiscences taken into account, he is the best-documented artist of the 16th century.

Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci more commonly Leonardo da Vinci or simply Leonardo, was an Italian polymath whose areas of interest included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. Many historians and scholars regard Leonardo as the prime exemplar of the "Universal Genius" or "Renaissance Man", an individual of "unquenchable curiosity" and "feverishly inventive imagination".
